Today, the Ekenäs Summer Concerts are a popular and well known festival. Since the beginning of the festival in 2000, we have enjoyed the performances of many internationally recognized artists. Karita Mattila, Barbara Hendricks, Olli Mustonen, Juha Uusitalo, Grigory Sokolov, Kari Kriikko, John Storgårds, Nathalie Stutzmann, and brothers Jaakko and Pekka Kuusisto, to name a few.
The classical concert event was founded by Mr. Jukka-Pekka Saraste, who is the leader of The Finnish Chamber Orchestra. He also acts as the artistic director for the festival. Over the years numerous themes have been explored by the concert festival, such as youth and talent, the gift of a song, Sibelius in the North and the music of the Baltic Sea.
The festival is arranged annually and takes place in early August. The four-day event attracts some 2000-3500 people. The Summer Concerts have been such a success thanks to the long-term cooperation between the Ekenäs Church, the Finnish Chamber Orchestra, Ekenäs konsertgarantiföreningen (the Concert Guarantee Association) and the City of Raseborg.
