Magical films for a magical autumn in Hanko. Hanko Film Festival presents fantastic, fast-paced and dramatic moments on the town’s cinema screens. Topical movies from near and far, from the shores of the Baltic, the Pacific and the Atlantic. We bid you welcome to the south of Finland to enjoy the dark evenings and the festive atmosphere in town and in the cinemas.
A varied programme
In recent years the festival has focused on movies from the Nordic countries and Estonia. The repertoire has among other movies, included “They have escaped”, “Reunion”, “Of Horses and Men” and “Elavad Pildid”. Also movies from Poland, Chile, Iran and China have been on screen, films like “Ida”, “Gloria”, “Nader och Simin”. Artists’ life: Pina Bausch and Edward Hopper.
The festival also produces and shows community based films. The main venue for the film festival is the atmospheric, 96 years old cinema Olympia.
